I am a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Environmental Health in the lab of Dr Andrea Baccarelli. My work focus on epigenetic studies and specifically on the evaluation of Histone modifications in environmentally exposed populations. In the lab, we are purifying histone protein from frozen and fresh Buffy coat samples and placenta tissue to measure some histone modifications through Elisa technique. On the other hand, we are evaluating the global levels of 5-methylcytosine (5mC) and 5-Hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) in DNA, also through Elisa technique. We want to know the role of the histone modifications, 5hmC and 5mC on the lung and cardiovascular effects by the environmental exposure, particularly, PM10 and PM2.5 exposure. Our goal is to identify new biomarkers that may regulate gene expression and try to see the mechanism associated with adverse health effects.
