Marti Lab

Welcome to the Marti Lab. Our laboratory is interested in different aspects of Plasmodium falciparum gametocytes, which are the sexual stage parasites required for transmission of malaria from humans to mosquitos. We study mechanisms of P. falciparum sexual commitment and development as well as interactions between these sexual stage parasites and host cells. The deadliest of the human malaria parasites, P.falciparum causes several hundred million infections and several hundred thousand deaths each year.
