A series of papers that look at how far nations have come toward meeting Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5 to reduce child mortality and improve maternal health was published September 12, 2016 in the open access journal BMC Public Health. The authors of “Countdown to 2015,” produced by a multi-institution international consortium, including the United Nations, World Bank, and World Health Organization, undertook eight country case studies to explore factors contributing to progress—or lack of progress—in reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health since 2003.
Peter Berman, professor of the practice of global health systems and economics in the Department of Global Health and Population, faculty director of Harvard Chan’s Doctor of Public Health degree program, and co-chair of the India Health Partnership (IHP), was co-editor of the series. Corrina Moucheraud, a Harvard Chan alumnus now at University of California Fielding School of Public Health, was a lead author of one of the papers.
