David Hemenway, professor of health policy at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health and director of the Harvard Injury Control Research Center, discussed the need for federal funding for gun violence research in the May 2017 issue of Scientific American.
“Public health is underfunded relative to medicine in terms of research. Within public health, injury prevention is particularly underfunded. And within injury prevention, firearms research is the most underfunded for the size of the problem.” Hemenway said. His remarks were made on February 17, 2017 at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), held in Boston.
