Op-ed: Canada’s healthcare system lags in innovation

International comparisons suggest that Canada ranks low in health system performance among countries that offer universal health coverage, according to an op-ed by Andrew Boozary, SM ’14, a visiting scientist in the Department of Health Policy and Management at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Boozary, a resident family physician at the University of Toronto, and co-author C. David Naylor argue that paying for health care differently would drive innovation and lead to better outcomes. They suggest looking to the United States’ Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation for inspiration in redesigning Canada’s Medicare system.
