Curbing climate change means protecting health

Climate change isn’t just about stronger hurricanes, warmer temperatures, and melting ice caps—it’s about public health, according to Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health’s Gina McCarthy.

In a July 6, 2018 interview in US News & World Report, McCarthy—director of the School’s Center for Climate, Health, and the Global Environment (C-CHANGE) and former administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency—said that although most people now recognize that the climate has changed, she doesn’t think people necessarily see why it’s relevant to their own lives.

“I’m interested in getting broader understanding of the solutions we have and broader engagement in the issue,” McCarthy said. “I want to bring climate down to size, and I want to talk about it as something we can tackle, not something to be afraid of or deny.”
