Coverage gains for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders through Affordable Care Act

More than 1 million Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPI) gained health insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act through 2016, according to a recent study led by researchers from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. They found that large gains in coverage occurred for all major AANHPI subgroups, and coverage disparities between subgroups were reduced.

In an October 16, 2018 blog post for AcademyHealth, first author John Park and co-authors write, “Future research should explore whether coverage gains continue beyond 2016, for major racial/ethnic groups as well as the nation at large.”

Harvard Chan School co-authors of the blog post included Benjamin Sommers and Howard Koh.
