Chan School-led research tops journal’s list of most-cited articles

A study led by Harvard T.H. Chan School researchers on disrespectful and abusive treatment of women during labor and delivery in Tanzania was the most cited paper published by Health Policy and Planning in 2018.

The findings were based on exit surveys of more than 1,700 women who had delivered babies in rural northeastern Tanzania. Nearly 600 of the women were laterr re-interviewed at home. Findings from the exit survey showed that 19.48% of women experience abusive or disrespectful treatment during childbirth.

Margaret Kruk, associate professor of global health at Harvard Chan School, was the lead author on the paper.
