Harvard Chan School’s Sustainability for Health Initiative for NetPositive Enterprise (SHINE) worked with Levi Strauss & Co on a workplace wellness survey using blockchain technology.
Blockchain lets people quickly and securely share data on the Internet. Using this technology, the survey allowed workers to anonymously self-report working conditions in factories, process the results within days, and share results with workers.
Eileen McNeely, director of SHINE, said in a May 14, 2019 Vogue Business article, “This is the first time ever in my 30 years of researching work and health that the workers were the first to see the results of the survey and not management.” She said, “This is groundbreaking transparency.”
