In his first editorial since being named editor of the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), Eric Rubin, Irene Heinz Given Professor of Immunology and Infectious Diseases at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, discussed his plans for the future of the prestigious journal.
Rubin noted that while the publishing industry at large is going through a period of turmoil and transformation, NEJM will continue to rely on a handful of central principles that have guided it for decades, including partnering closely with authors, maintaining rigor in research, and assuring objectivity.
“I have inherited a strong organization, a dedicated group of editors and staff, and the continuing mentorship of my predecessor. I look forward to their advice,” Rubin wrote. “And I also want to hear from you, our readers. I am hoping for a bit of praise along with criticism, just for the sake of variety. But I promise to consider all your thoughts, positive or negative.”
