Two Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health faculty members and one alumna are among 22 experts featured in a project called “I Am A Scientist,” which aims to promote diversity in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields by providing middle- and high-school students with information about modern-day researchers.
The project features Francesca Dominici, Clarence James Gamble Professor of Biostatistics, Population and Data Science, and co-director of the Harvard Data Science Initiative; Pardis Sabeti, professor of immunology and infectious diseases at Harvard Chan School and professor at the Center for Systems Biology and Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University; and University of California epidemiologist Noor Al-Alusi, SM ’17.
Produced by the educational design studio The Plenary, the project aims to provide students with diverse role models in science, according to a July 23, 2020 Harvard Gazette article. It provides teachers with toolkits showcasing scientists’ personalities, backgrounds, career paths, and interests.
