Mary Bassett honored during Black History Month

Mary Bassett is being honored by the New York Academy of Medicine as part of its Black History Month celebration.

Bassett, director of the François-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) Center for Health and Human Rights at Harvard University, FXB Professor of the Practice of Health and Human Rights at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and former New York City health commissioner, is one of eight Black leaders in medicine and health being recognized alongside eight Black pioneers in those fields. Bassett was recognized in the field of medical education, alongside William Augustus Hinton, who became the first African American professor at Harvard Medical School in 1949.
