Earth Week 2021

A host of events are planned for Earth Week 2021, including a talk by the lead negotiator for the Paris Climate Agreement, Christiana Figueres.

Figueres will speak on Earth Day, April 22, 2021, 6-7 pm, on “The Decisive Decade for Climate Action,” at the Harvard Kennedy School Robert S. McNamara Lecture on War and Peace. Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health’s Center for Climate, Health, and the Global Environment at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (Harvard Chan C-CHANGE) is co-hosting the event with Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics, the JFK Jr. Forum, and the Forum at Harvard Chan School.

Other events featuring Harvard Chan School experts include:

April 19: Aaron Bernstein, interim director of C-CHANGE and a pediatric hospitalist, discusses “Teaching Climate Change and Its Effects on Human Health” on the Academic Medicine Podcast.

April 24: Symposium, The Intersection of Climate Change, COVID-19, and Structural Racism, sponsored by the MGH Institute of Health Professions Center for Climate Change, Climate Justice, and Health.

  • 9:15-10:15 am: Renee Salas, emergency medicine physician and Yerby Fellow at C-CHANGE and an emergency medicine physician, will deliver the keynote, “Climate Change, COVID-19, and Structural Racism: Interconnected Health Solutions for the 21st Century.”
  • 11:15-11:45 am: Jaime Hart, associate professor in the Department of Environmental Health, will speak on “Environmental Epidemiology and COVID-19 Research in the Nurses’ Health Studies.”
  • 1:15-2:30 pm: Caleb Dresser, climate and human health fellow at C-CHANGE and an emergency medicine physician, will be part of a panel on “Engagement in Climate and Health Policy and Advocacy.”

April 25-30: 2021 Planetary Health Annual Meeting and Festival, co-hosted by the Planetary Health Alliance and the University of São Paulo, Brazil.

April 27: American Climate Leadership Summit 2021

  • 11 am-2 pm: Gaurab Basu, health equity fellow at C-CHANGE and a physician with the Cambridge Health Alliance, will be on the National Health and Climate Forum’s Climate Justice and Health Equity panel.
