Boston’s Longwood Medical and Academic Area has experienced significant job growth in the past decade and now accounts for 1 out of every 10 jobs in Boston, according to a new report published by the Medical Academic and Scientific Community Organization (MASCO).
The report noted that the number of jobs in the Longwood area has increased by nearly 30%, or approximately 15,000 jobs, in the last decade. All told, Longwood accounts for nearly 68,000 jobs and 27,000 students.
Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health is among the institutions based in the Longwood area.
Other findings from the report include:
- Colleges and universities in Longwood are attracting double the number of out-of-state students and triple the number of international students than ever before
- Graduates from colleges and universities in Longwood are more likely to stay in Massachusetts than alumni from other schools
- Longwood added more than 1,200 jobs per year over the last 10 years
