Catherine Mullaly, MPH ’10, an anesthesiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), was working in a Libyan hospital on October 20, 2011, as rebels took control of the Libyan city of Sirte and the country’s ruler Moammar Gadhafi was captured and killed. Now home, she recently wrote a blog post for the MGH website about her experience serving as a Durant fellow at Qasr Ahmed Hospital in Misrata, Libya, with Doctors Without Borders.
In an interview with the radio program The Takeaway on October 31, Mullaly spoke about the state of the health care infrastructure in Libya and the challenges faced by the country’s physicians before and after the war.
Dan Schwarz, who recently completed his MPH in the Department of Health Policy and Management, works to advance health care in rural Nepal as executive director of the nonprofit Nyaya Health. He was profiled in a November 9, 2011, post on the Global Health Delivery Project blog. This project brings together Harvard-affiliated collaborators to develop case-based curricula and educational programs, conduct interdisciplinary research, and connect online with global health professionals worldwide.
