Climate change topic of inaugural lecture

Two Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) faculty members were among a dozen speakers from Harvard’s 12 graduate and professional schools who outlined concerns about the effects of climate change–and possible solutions–at the inaugural “One Harvard: Lectures that Last” program. [[David Hemenway]], professor of health policy, and [[John Spengler]], Akira Yamaguchi professor of environmental health and human habitation, spoke at the April 3, 2012 event, held at the Charles Hotel in Cambridge, MA.

Hemenway said there is a need to create better data collection and management systems to measure the impact of climate change on the world. Spengler, also director of the sustainability and environmental management program at the Harvard Extension School, used Maya mythology to take a long view of Earth’s resources.

The purpose of the event was to reveal the crosscurrents of innovation that can flow from discipline to discipline, and to expose students to ideas from Harvard’s different schools, said Divya Dhar, vice president of the Harvard Graduate Council, who organized the event.
