Tuberculosis researchers explore links between infectious and metabolic diseases

Examining connections between infectious and metabolic diseases is the focus of an October 2013 tuberculosis (TB) symposium, and an accompanying blog, cosponsored by Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH). The 7th Annual New England Tuberculosis Symposium will bring together researchers from all over the region, which boasts the highest density of research on TB biology and disease in the country.

Other sponsors of the October 10 Symposium include the Broad Institute, the Harvard Global Health Institute, the Harvard University Center for AIDS Research, and HSPH’s Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases.

In an October 4, 2013 blog post, Harvard College student Alexandra Rojek wrote that while “it may not seem as if there is much to connect these two classes of disease (metabolic and communicable)…as we learn more about their deeper molecular mechanisms, we see a convergence on shared principles emerging.”
