Gökhan S. Hotamisligil, J.S. Simmons Professor of Genetics and Metabolism, chair of the Department of Molecular Metabolism, and principal investigator of the Sabri Ülker Center at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, has been selected to receive a 2015 Laureate Award from the Endocrine Society. The Roy O. Greep Award for Outstanding Research will be presented to Hotamisligil at the Society’s 97th annual meeting in March in San Diego.
Hotamisligil has been a pioneer in research efforts to explain the mechanistic basis of common chronic metabolic diseases, particularly obesity, diabetes and heart disease. His work has led to the emergence of novel concepts that have altered the understanding of disease pathogenesis.
Founded in 1916, the Society is the world’s oldest, largest and most active organization devoted to research on hormones and the clinical practice of endocrinology.
