Racism harmful to health

The offensive fraternity chant recently caught on camera at the University of Oklahoma is a reminder that racism continues to envelop the U.S. “like a fog,” New York Times columnist Charles M. Blow wrote in an op-ed published March 11, 2015. Citing research by Nancy Krieger, professor of social epidemiology at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and others, he wrote that racist acts don’t just hurt feelings, they harm health, increasing the risk of stress, the common cold, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, breast cancer, and mortality.
