Robert Blendon, professor of health policy and political analysis, is quoted in an Associated Press story about Missouri voters’ opposition to part of President Obama’s health care reform law. In the vote on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2010, 71% of voters cast their ballots in support of a state measure that would bar the federal government from requiring that Missouri residents carry health insurance. The article notes that it is unlikely the measure will be upheld in courts, as state law is usually superseded by federal law. But Blendon notes that there may be a political benefit for supporters of the measure, as it may rally opponents of the federal health care law to go the polls in upcoming fall elections.
