Harvard Chan community gathers to remember Freddie Gray

The crowd paused for a three-minute moment of silence.

May 1, 2015- On the day that six Baltimore police officers were charged in the death of Freddie Gray, students, faculty, and staff at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health gathered for a moment of silence. Gray, a 25-year-old black man, died on April 19 while in police custody. His death has sparked protests in Baltimore and across the nation.

On Friday, May 1, a large crowd gathered in the courtyard outside the Sebastian J. Kresge building. They held white candles and paused for a three-minute moment of silence, acknowledging Gray’s death and showing solidarity with those protesting against racial injustice. On Monday, May 4, an open forum will be held so that students, faculty, and staff can discuss the events in Baltimore.  The forum will run from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in Kresge G-1.
