Behrooz Behbod (Co-chair)
ScD Harvard-Cyprus Program, Environmental Health
After medical school, Behrooz went onto work in a variety ofclinical, medical and surgical specialties. With an evolving interest in preventive healthcare, he completed a Masters in Environmental Health, and the focus of his doctoral research is the epidemiology of childhood asthma and obesity. Behrooz is actively involved in employing a variety of media, and his ultimate goal is to enhance the communication of health research findings, both to the general public and to policy-makers.
Elizabeth 'Liesl' Bradford (Newsletter)
MS Society Human Development and Health
Liesl coordinated youth advocacy programs at the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. She collaborated with youth, community and grass-roots organizations as well as politicians across the U.S. to advocate for tobacco tax increases, clean indoor air legislation, and FDA regulation of tobacco. She created a forum to provide advocacy, media and activism trainings at the 2005 National Conference on Tobacco and Health. Liesl intends to pursue her interests in HIV/AIDS, tobacco control, and how health promotion can eliminate health disparities.
Elizabeth Cafiero (Off-site seminars)
MS Population & International Health
Elizabeth worked as a Project Officer in the Unit of Noncommunicable Diseases at the Pan American Health Organization, a regional office of the WHO. She wrote several grants securing over $1.2m for projects in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the goal of improving quality of chronic disease care and improving the surveillance of chronic diseases and risk factors. She also was co-director of the World Bank Youth AIDS team, a network of young professionals dedicated to HIV/AIDS.
Anna Casey (Historian)
MS Population and International Health
Before coming to HSPH, Anna worked on international health policy. She collaborated on a disease priority-setting project for the Mexico Ministry of Health whose goal was to influence the health care options for uninsured populations in Mexico. Currently, she is working on mental health interventions for children by examining community factors that help (or hinder) ex-child soldiers' ability to reintegrate into their communities after war.
Cecilia Gerard (Newsletter)
MS Health Policy and Management
Prior to HSPH, Cecilia specialized in pharmaceutical pricing regulations for Medicaid, Medicare and other government-subsidized health care programs as a consultant with a New Jersey-based firm. She advised drug makers on best practices in regulatory compliance and estimated the financial impact of clients' pricing policies on States. She is currently working with an HSPH professor to study the prevalence and performance of quality management programs at U.S. hospitals.
Rena Greifinger (Newsletter, Secretary)

Rena spent two years working with a London-based charity for young people affected by HIV. She provided individual and group support, legal advocacy, and information for organization members and the wider community. She worked on a high-profile media campaign, organized a high-profile music event and worked closely with health professionals, politicians and youth advocates to raise awareness. She plans to continue working as both an activist and advocate,internationally, for young people affected by the virus.
Eleonora Jimenez (Off-site seminars)

Eleonora earned a BA in Political Science-Human Rights from Barnard College. She spent three years working at the Open Society Institute providing grants and technical assistance to community-based organizations to monitor and advocate around the need for integrated tuberculosis and HIV policies and services. Eleonora is concentrating in Maternal and Child Health, and is interested in exploring how human rights education supports communities affected by poor health and how these communities can advocate for better care on their own behalf.
Natasha Khouri (Newsletter, Treasurer)

Natasha has five years experience at grass-roots organizations. She has worked on campaigns for state legislator and gubernatorial elections, as well as for two labor unions. She led successful union organizing campaigns among RNs in acute-care and other industries. In Illinois, Natasha helped organize the campaign for safe RN staffing ratios. She has played a lead role in new growth strategies around the country for healthcare unions. At Harvard, Natasha is studying health economics and intends to pursue a Ph.D.
Katie Kobus (Off-site seminars)
MS Health Policy and Management
Katie spent two years working in cost-effectiveness research at the Harvard School of Public Health as a research assistant with the Global HPV Vaccine Policy Model. Her work focused on implementation of the vaccine in developing countries with analyses in Brazil, Peru, and Vietnam. Prior to her work in academia, Katie lived and worked in Cape Town, South Africa organizing AIDS awareness and education programs. She plans to work in health systems reform upon graduation from HSPH.
Jill Krechowicz (Seminar Logistics)
MS Society, Human Development and Health
Jill’s primary areas of interest include the social determinants of health and how health and social policies can reduce health disparities. She recently designed and implemented an after-school curriculum for urban middle school students on nutrition and on effecting change in school food policies. She helped coordinate a school-wide presentation where the students shared their ideas with food service coordinators about healthy snack options and how to incorporate locally grown food into the school food program.
Eve Nagler (School-wide drives)

Eve spent 10 years working with the American Cancer Society to address cancer disparities faced by underserved populations. Prior to this, she worked with the CDC on a malaria project in Africa, with Georgian communities to prevent adolescent drug use, and as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Central African Republic training village-based midwives. She currently manages a wellness program for African-American churches. Eve's doctoral studies are focused on developing cancer prevention interventions for diverse audiences.
Jeremy Pertman (Marketing)
MS Epidemiology
Jeremy comes to HSPH from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. His recent graduation from college has provided him with opportunities to work in both neurological and orthopedic clinical settings on health services revision and patient quality of life assessment. Upon completing this degree, Jeremy plans to pursue further education in public health and the biomedical sciences.
Andrew Renda (Seminar Logistics)
MPH Health Policy and Management
After receiving his BS and MB, Andrew began psychiatry training in Ireland. He developed an interest in public mental health and delivered several public lectures about mental health issues commonly misunderstood in society. He is interested in reducing the stigma of mental illness in the general public. After graduation, he hopes to become involved in health policy and the evaluation of healthcare delivery at the state or community level.
Carmel Salhi (Open House)
MS Population and International Health
Carmel is studying Population and International Health with a focus on epidemiologic methods. He intends to continue to study issues of mental health within displaced populations, with particular interest in the Middle East.
Stefanie Shapiro (Marketing)
MPH Health Management and Policy
Stefanie spent 18 months working for the San Francisco Public Defender's Office as a Juvenile Justice Social Worker. She led weekly group sessions in cognitive-behavioral therapeutic mental health intervention to reduce recidivism. She also worked with developmentally disabled children, supervising assessment and evaluation of health care needs, planning, authorizing services, and monitoring. Upon graduation, Stefanie intends to start a career in hospital administration and lead a comprehensive clinic in a community with vulnerable populations.
