Reproductive health clinic in Mexico named for Ana Langer

Ana LangerA new reproductive health clinic in Mexico City has been named for Ana Langer of Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in recognition of her work in Mexico and Latin America to boost women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights and to improve the prevention and care of maternal health complications among both teens and women.

Langer, professor of the practice of public health and director of the Women and Health Initiative, was honored on March 9, 2017 at the new Ana Langer, M.D. Reproductive Health Clinic in the Hospital Materno Infantil Inguarán in Mexico City. The Secretary of Health of Mexico City, Dr. Armando Ahued Ortega, presented Langer with a plaque at the event.

Mexico City has adopted unique progressive women’s health policies and offers free high-quality reproductive health services to women from the megalopolis and other states in the country, Langer said. According to Ahued Ortega, maternal deaths in Mexico City decreased significantly over the past few years as a result of these efforts. Langer promoted the expansion of what she called the “outstanding work” in Mexico City elsewhere in Mexico and in other Latin American countries.
