Creating and Editing Content

Linking an uploaded file or web link

To add a link to a file from a piece piece of content, please do the following:

  1. Login to http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/publisher with your Harvard ID and PIN

  2. You should be forwarded to your CONTROL PANEL for your site

  3. Please note that there is HELP specific to each page in the upper right hand corner.  Help explains each field and icon on the page.

  4. Select CONTENT MANAGER

  5. Select the EDIT BUTTON edit (edit.gif) for the topic that you'd like to edit.

  6. If you'd like to add a link to a file that you uploaded (i.e. MS Word, Powerpoint, Excel, PDF), select or create text the you'd like to be the hyperlink.  Click on the LINK button from the editing menu (a chain link icon).

  7. Select the desired link target from one of the following:
    1. a file from the list of UPLOADED FILES that have been uploaded to your site
    2. an INTERNAL LINK to another page on your site
    3. LINK URL to link to a file that is located off of HSPH's web server. 

  8. In the TARGET field, please select whether you want the file to open in a new window or the same window.

  9. After choosing a link and target, select INSERT.

  10. Click SAVE to save it to the publisher database

  11. Once you are finished with editing items, click BACK from the CONTENT MANAGER PAGE to return to the CONTROL PANEL

  12. You may preview your site with the PREVIEW SITE button in the upper right.

  13. If your site is edited to your satisfaction, please click on the BACK button to return to the CONTROL PANEL and then LAUNCH WEBSITE to move it to its final location on the main web server.  For any changes to appear on the HSPH web page (content edits, deletions, new file upload, etc.) the site must be reLAUNCHED.
