A native New Englander, Norma Swenson earned her high school diploma from the Girls’ Latin School, [now Boston Latin Academy] and was selected as one of its Outstanding Alumnae.  A graduate of Tufts University in Sociology, Norma earned her MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health, specializing in Health Law and Health Services Aministration. Following work as a community liaison specialist for the US Public Health Service she returned to Tufts as a graduate student in Medical Sociology. Awarded a Danforth Foundation Fellowship, Norma then studied Critical Medical Sociology at Brandeis University with Professor Irving Zola. In addition to honors and certificates from numerous organizations, including Boston’s Health Care for All, The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center, and the Second Latin American Congress on Family Planning in Brazil, Norma has consulted for the World Health Organization in Geneva, PAHO [Pan American Health Organization], and WHO EURO. She has also consulted for major health foundations, academic institutions, and research organizations in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
