Mexico's Commissioner of Social Protection in Health Discussed Health Care Program at Lecture
As the U.S. Congress debates health care reform, Mexico has already instituted a universal health care program that is expected to cover millions of previously uninsured people by the year 2011, Salomón Chertorivski Woldenberg, pictured at right, the country’s National Commissioner of Social Protection in Health, told an HSPH audience on December 7 in Kresge G-3.
“We envision a future where all Mexicans have high-quality care under a single universal system,” said Chertorivski, who delivered the talk as part of the Dean’s Distinguished Lecture Series. “We as Mexicans can be very, very proud. We can share with you some lessons.”
The program, known as Seguro Popular, was introduced by HSPH Dean Julio Frenk when he was Mexico’s Minister of Health.
