SIGN UP NOW: Competition Will Challenge HSPH Teams to See Who Can "Take the Stairs" Until They Climb the Equivalent of Mt. Kilimanjaro

HSPH's EcoOpportunity Team has organized a "Take the Stairs" competition aimed at improving health by getting people to take the stairs more often and at reducing environmental impact by using the elevator less often. HSPH members may form teams. The first three teams that climb enough stairs to reach the equivalent of the height of Mt. Kilimanjaro will win prizes.

The height of Mt. Kilimanjaro will serve as the goal of the contest. The first three teams to climb enough stairs to reach the equivalent of the height of the mountain will win prizes.

The Rules

   1. The Team Captain may register teams of no more than four people beginning on April 1st. Teams may include people from various departments, provided that all members have an official Harvard email address.

   2. Prizes will be awarded for the first three teams to reach the peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro, though all teams to finish the competition will receive a participatory T-shirt.

   3. The competition will last from April 22nd through May 22nd.

   4. Each team member is responsible for logging onto the PIN-enabled system and tracking his or her own stair usage (entered in flights). One flight of stairs walked (up or down) will be the equivalent of 15 feet climbed up Mt. Kilimanjaro.

   5. The number of stairs climbed will be self-reported. Participants will be on an honor system and are asked to be honest in recording their efforts. Only stairs at HSPH count.

   6. Have fun.

To register and for more information, visit the PIN-enabled site.

The competition begins during Earth Week. Eco-Opportunity has planned a number of events for that week. Check the group's web site for more information.
