Winners of Student Photo Contest Announced

FIRST PLACE, “Profile in Healthcare: A BRAC Community Health Worker” by Kate Grindlay.  Photo taken in Bangladesh. Grindlay explains: Women like this one go door-to-door in their communities educating households on common health problems.

The Office for Student Affairs has announced the results of the second annual HSPH Student Photo Contest.

BEST PHOTO ESSAY SERIES, “The Promise” by Leesa Lin. Photo taken in Sichuan, China. Lin's series documented some of the aftermath of the Wenchuan Earthquake in May 2008.

The contest attracted entries from across the School. A panel of judges awarded first, second, third prizes, and honorable mentions, as well as a special award for the best photo essay. Entries were judged both on their aesthetics and on their relevance to public health. The winning entries plus additional submissions will be framed and displayed in the Office for Student Affairs as well as in various areas of the HSPH community in the coming weeks.

THIRD PLACE, “Medical Transportation in Rural Bangladesh” by Michael Yamashita. Photo taken in Matlab, Bangladesh. Yamashita explains: This is an ambulance used to transport women from a rural birthing center to the community hospital.
