HSPH Contributes Quickly to H1N1 Flu Global Control Efforts

Shortly after H1N1 flu hit the public health radar in April, HSPH researchers were consulting with the Mexican and U.S. governments, fielding dozens of international media calls, polling Americans, and identifying research projects to help the world better understand how to control and prevent the spread of the virus.

Panel Puts H1N1 Flu in Historical Perspective

As cases of Influenza Type A H1N1, or “swine flu,” emerged around the globe and as the Harvard School of Dental Medicine managed a recent cluster of cases there, HSPH faculty and other experts convened a panel and discussion for the School community on May 6. The event was presented by the Center for Public Health Preparedness (HSPH-CPHP) and the Division of Public Health Practice.

Into the War Zone: Simulation of Darfur Refugee Camps Trains Future Humanitarian Leaders

Students from HSPH and other institutions gathered in the Harold Parker State Forest in North Andover, MA, in April to participate in a simulation of the refugee situation in Eastern Chad, where thousands of people have fled following violence in the neighboring Darfur region of western Sudan.

Former Surgeon General Satcher Accepted Richmond Award

David Satcher, the 16th Surgeon General of the United States and former Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, accepted the Julius B. Richmond Award — the highest honor given by Harvard School of Public Health — at a ceremony on May 4.
