Halperin Spoke on Globalization and Health at United Nations


Daniel Halperin, lecturer on international health in the Department of Global Health and Population, spoke at a special event of the Second Committee of the United Nations General Assembly on "Globalization and Health" on Friday, October 24, 2008, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.


Richard Gelber Received Brinker Award


Richard Gelber, professor in the Department of Biostatistics, is one of the recipients of the Komen Foundation Brinker Award for Scientific Distinction for 2008. Gelber has a primary appointment with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The award is the most prestigious honor given by the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, one of the world's largest private sources of funding for breast cancer research and community outreach programs.

Gelber received the award on December 11 at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio in Texas at a dinner and award presentation event.


Inclement Weather Policy


Operations has emailed the HSPH community with the following reminder: The School will always remain open during snow storms or severe weather conditions. Classes may be canceled due to inclement weather, in which case the School will go to a "Designated Personnel Only" policy. In this event, television and radio stations will be notified. Koh and Willett Named to New IOM Committee


Howard Koh, Associate Dean for Public Health Practice at HSPH, has been named the chair of a new Institute of Medicine committee called "Public Health Priorities to Reduce and Control Hypertension in the U.S. Population." HSPH Professor Walter Willett is a member. The committee's purpose is to review public health strategies for reducing and controlling hypertension in the U.S. including both science-based and practice-based knowledge.
