Commencement Information

HSPH Commencement will be held in the afternoon of June 8 in the Countway Courtyard. Julie Gerberding, head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will be the School's Commencement speaker. Below is the schedule for both the University and HSPH ceremonies.

  • Harvard Yard Commencement Ceremony,
    Morning Exercises
  • 8:05 a.m. Graduating students line up in Harvard Yard, Cambridge.
  • 8:35 a.m. The academic procession begins.
  • 9:45 a.m. The ceremony begins.
  • 11:30 a.m. The ceremony ends.

The Morning Exercises, which convene in the outdoor Tercentenary Theatre, are attended by approximately 32,000 degree candidates, family members, faculty, alumni, and guests. The morning session includes students from all parts of the University and features the awarding of honorary degrees and the collective conferral of the degrees to each School's graduates by President Lawrence Summers. After the morning ceremony, shuttle buses will bring students and their guests back to HSPH.

  • 1:30 p.m. Graduates begin to line up for the academic procession.
  • 2:00 p.m. Faculty begin to line up for the academic procession.
  • 2:30 p.m. The academic procession begins.
  • 5:00 p.m. The HSPH ceremony ends, and the reception begins.
