Ladies' Home Journal Awards Given to Willett and Speizer
Walter Willett, chair of the HSPH Department of Nutrition, and Frank Speizer, Edward H. Kass Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, received the first annual Health Breakthrough Award from the Ladies' Home Journal. The award recognizes leading medical professionals who are making life-saving and life-enhancing discoveries in research, diagnostics, and treatment, with results that have significantly helped women and families. Speizer also has an appointment at HSPH as Professor of Environmental Science.
The award was presented at a luncheon on August 2 in New York City.
Faculty Appointments
Sarah Fortune and Matthias Marti have been named assistant professors of immunology and infectious diseases.
Jim Yong Kim has been appointed director of the François-Xavier Bagnoud Center for Health and Human Rights and as the François-Xavier Bagnoud Professor of Health and Human Rights at the School.
Jack Shonkoff has been appointed Professor of Child Health and Development at HSPH and at the Graduate School of Education.
HSPH Video Wins Major Award
A video featuring HSPH students and alumni who talk about why they came to the School was selected to receive a CINE Golden Eagle Award, an honor given in the past to the PBS "Wide Angle" series, Voice of America, and the PBS "American Masters" series.

The video was produced for HSPH by Jonathan Barkan of the production company Communications for Learning in Arlington, MA.
Founded in 1957, CINE has been dedicated to recognizing emerging talent in film and video. Among talents who received the Golden Eagle Award early in their careers are Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, and Ken Burns.
