Argyro Caminis, who served as HSPH student leader on the trip
A group of 14 HSPH students learned firsthand about the Chinese health system and its reforms through a WinterSession field study led by
Yuanli Liu, assistant professor of international health, Department of Population and International Health.
Explained Liu, China represents a good country for conducting a field study on health system reforms, not only because it is the world's largest country and has a wide spectrum of complex health and health system issues, but also because serious efforts are underway to reform the health care system.

Yuanli Liu led a discussion at the Xianghe County Maternal and Child Health Station
After orientation seminars at Tsinghua University in Beijing, the students visited both public and private health facilities in the city. Then they traveled to rural areas to investigate China's three-tiered rural health care system, including county hospitals, township health centers, and village health posts. On the last day, the students attended an international health policy seminar in Beijing on China's health care reform and shared their observations with attendees.
