Beginning June 1, all Harvard staff will begin to use a new online tool in PeopleSoft called "Absence Management" to request, record, and track paid time off. Managers will use the Absence Management tool to view their staff's banks of paid time off and to approve time off requests. Staff members will be able to see up-to-date balances. Employees will access the tool by going through HARVie to PeopleSoft, as they do now for Time & Labor Reporting and to view their paychecks.
Reporting absences in the new system is required for all administrative/professional staff (both exempt and overtime-eligible) and clerical/technical staff (HUCTW and non-union). Extended part-time employees, postdocs, research assistants, research scientists, service/trades employees, less-than-half-time employees, and interns will not report time off in the new system.
Online training for Absence Management will be available to staff beginning in mid April at harvie.harvard.edu/ess. Employees will receive an e-mail with a customized training plan and a direct link to online tutorials. Instructor-led training will also be available to those who need more assistance by HSPH Human Resources and Financial Services.
The new tool will track the following kinds of paid time off: vacation, sick days, personal days, longer-service bonus days, bereavement time, jury duty, excused absences, and training/conferences.
More information about the introduction of Absence Management can be found on HARVie. There will also be further description in the May issue of the Harvard Resource newsletter.
