Albert Henn, a lecturer on international health at HSPH from 1983 to 1992, passed away on May 5. He was aboard a Kenya Airways plane that crashed in Cameroon. Dr. Henn also was an alumnus of the School, receiving his MPH degree in 1974.
Dr. Henn, who was 70 years old, dedicated his life to improving health in developing countries, particularly in Africa. He served as a Medical Officer for the Peace Corps in Togo and Washington, D.C., beginning in 1968 and joined USAID in 1974, where he worked for a number of years. Most recently, he was the Director of Liverpool VCT, a British-based non-governmental organization in Kenya that provided HIV/AIDS counseling, testing, and support services. At the time of his death, Dr. Henn was working toward an organizational transition to Kenyan leadership. He focused on mentoring Africans so that they could run public health programs themselves.
At the time of his death, he was living in Nairobi, Kenya, with his wife, Dr. Kristan Schoultz. He is also survived by his daughter, Julia, son, Steve, and their mother, Jeanne Koopman.
