A team of three HSPH fellows and students won a competition sponsored by Harvard Business School with their plan for a new approach to cardiovascular disease prevention in China and other developing countries.

The three - Lingling Zhang, a doctoral student in population and international health; Onil Bhattacharyya, a Takemi Research Fellow; and Anna Chodos, an MPH student - received $10,000 to go toward the implementation of the plan and another $10,000 in pro bono legal and accounting services. The team won the "social enterprise track" of the HBS Business Plan Competition.
The HSPH team proposed the creation of an NGO called "Unite for Health!" The plan calls for a pilot project in Beijing and in rural Shantou, China, to screen and treat people in those regions for heart disease. If the project proves successful, the team wants to scale up to include other cities and regions in China and, possibly, other countries.
