Rubin Named Chair of NIH Section on AIDS Drugs
Eric Rubin, HSPH associate professor of immunology and infectious diseases, has agreed to serve as chairperson of the AIDS Discovery and Development of Therapeutics Study Section, Center for Scientific Review, National Institutes of Health. The Center serves as the entry point for NIH grant applications and their review for scientific merit. Rubin will serve until June 30, 2009.
Shuttle All-Ride Program Piloted
A new program is being piloted that allows students and employees from the eight medical institutions in the Longwood Medical Area to ride free of charge many of the shuttles offered by Brigham and Women's Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Children's Hospital. These shuttles are in addition to the MASCO shuttles already available.
The goal of this program is to increase access to and around the Longwood Medical Area. It is open to all employees and students of Longwood Medical Area, research, and academic medical institutions. These institutions include:
- HSPH, HMS, and HDSM
- Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
- Brigham and Women's Hospital
- Children's Hospital
- Dana Farber Cancer Institute
- Joslin Diabetes Center
The Pilot Program will run from October 1 to December 31, 2007. - ID Badge is required by riders.
- Shuttles will continue to make only regularly scheduled stops and will not make additional stops based on other existing routes
- Shuttles will continue to operate on existing schedules

HSPH Faculty in PBS Episode Screening
The Boston premiere screening of Episode One of the PBS Documentary "Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us Sick?" was shown to a packed audience on October 2 at the New Research Building. HSPH faculty advised the filmmakers and appear in the episode. The screening included a panel discussion about health disparities. The event was organized by the Harvard Center for Society and Health at HSPH. The series is expected to air in spring 2008. More information will be announced when available.
