HSPH Research Associate Competed on 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire'

Jennifer Pai, a research associate in the Harvard School of Public Health Department of Epidemiology, won $25,000 on the game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. The segment aired on local ABC station WCVB on December 10, 2007.

The $25,000 question, which Pai guessed correctly as "A," was "Thermohaline circulation occurs where? A) In the North Atlantic Ocean, B) In the aortic arch, C) In a hydroelectric power plant, D) In a centrifuge." Thermohaline circulation describes how ocean water circulates due to differences in density that result from salt content and water temperature.

Pai researches the prevention of cardiovascular disease.

This is not the first time HSPH members have been associated with Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. In February 2007, Andrea Ault, a GSAS student who took classes at HSPH, and her fiancé, Ralph Brutus, competed, also winning $25,000. Todd Datz, Assistant Director for External Communications in the HSPH Office of Communications, served as a 'lifeline' on a different episode.
