Nancy Mueller Steps Down as Head of Population Sciences at DF/HCC

HSPH Professor Nancy Mueller has stepped down as associate director for population sciences for the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC). In that role, she coordinated five programs and five core facilities, which are akin to shared laboratories. Hans-Olov Adami, chair of the HSPH Department of Epidemiology, has taken over the position. The transition provides an opportunity to describe the Center's purpose and the benefits of membership, which is open to all HSPH faculty.

Edward Benz, president of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, with Nancy Mueller at a reception in her honor.

"Working with colleagues across the LMA during the past 10 years has been a gratifying and engaging experience," said Mueller. "The DF/HCC brings together more than 200 population scientists with those in the basic and clinician sciences. For HSPH, it provides all our scientists engaged in cancer research the opportunity to work in cross-disciplinary programs and access to central cores. The DF/HCC provides competitive pilot funding for research initiatives. I'm grateful for the support of my colleagues in this successful initiative."

Mueller was feted in December at a special reception. She will continue to direct the Rapid Case Identification core.

Said Adami, "It has been a true privilege to succeed Nancy Mueller in this important endeavor. She has done a terrific and dedicated job and has created well-functioning machinery. I was resistant initially to take on this role due to lack of time, but I could not resist the opportunity to work with colleagues who have such commitment and passion for excellence. I am looking forward to collaborating with them."

The DF/HCC was established to harness the broad expertise of cancer specialists across Harvard-affiliated institutions.

Integral to the DF/HCC are Core Facilities, which are central laboratories that enable DF/HCC investigators to perform experiments more quickly, accurately, and affordably. A listing is below.
