NIH Public Access Policy Requires PubMed Central Submission
As of April 7, 2008, all investigators funded by the National
Institutes of Health (NIH) are required to submit, or have submitted
for them, an electronic version of final, peer-reviewed manuscripts to
NIH's PubMed Central upon acceptance
for publication, to be made publicly available no later than 12 months
after the official date of publication.

Cigarette Tax Increase Could Have Large Public Health Impact
Increasing Massachusetts' tax on cigarettes by a dollar could prevent
as many as 27,200 premature deaths associated with smoking in the
state, according to Frank Chaloupka, a nationally recognized health
economist, at an HSPH event.
Is Nutrition Science, Asks Speaker at Stare-Hegsted Lecture
A leading nutrition researcher from the Netherlands defended nutrition
science against critics who say the field is flawed in a March 4 talk
at HSPH. He pointed out that many important findings have been made in
the past 30 years, and conceded that problems exist, particularly with
the influence of the food industry in the design and execution of
studies.
Heads Up! Human Resources Announces New Protocol for Sending Emails to HSPH Staff
Beginning Monday, March 31, there will be a new protocol for sending
emails to HSPH staff. Human Resources will manage a weekly
communication called Staff Heads Up that will gather in one mailing the
news, events, and announcements that currently go out in an ad hoc
manner to all HSPH staff. The first Staff Heads Up will be distributed
on Tuesday, April 8.
Student Awards Accepting Applications
Applications are now being accepted for the annual Uwe Brinkmann Memorial Travel Fellowship, the Gareth Green Award for Excellence in Public Health Practice, and the Dr. Fang Ching Sun Memorial Award.
