McCormick Receives Bowditch Award for Excellence in Public Health

mm2b (mccormick.jpg) Marie McCormick, Sumner and Esther Feldberg Professor of Maternal and Child Health in the HSPH Department of Society, Human Development, and Health, received the 2008 Henry Ingersoll Bowditch Award for Excellence in Public Health, at a special luncheon on Thursday, May 8 at the Seaport Hotel in Boston. The award is given by the Massachusetts Medical Society to a physician who demonstrates creativity, commendable citizenship, initiative, innovation, and leadership in the public health and advocacy fields.

Alberto Ascherio Promoted

aa2b (aa2.jpg) Alberto Ascherio has been promoted to professor of epidemiology and nutrition in the Departments of Epidemiology and Nutrition. His research group investigates risk factors and early diagnosis of neurological diseases including Parkinson's disease, MS, and ALS.

 

Awards Given for Curricula

HSPH Professor Steven Gortmaker and Assistant Professor S. Bryn Austin recently accepted awards from ANAD, the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders. Gortmaker was recognized for the Planet Health and Eat Well and Keep Moving curricula, which promote healthy eating and exercise habits among school children. Austin received the Healthy Living Award for research demonstrating the protective effect Planet Health can have in preventing the development of eating disorders among early adolescent girls.
