Glimcher The FASEB Excellence in Science Lecture and Award recognizes outstanding achievement by women in the biological sciences each year. It includes a $10,000 unrestricted research grant funded by Eli Lilly and Company.
The research, FASEB noted, has resulted in nearly 170 original reports, virtually all in top-notch journals. Glimcher was nominated by Raif Geha, a professor of pediatrics at HMS. Said Geha in his nomination, "Her contributions to science are not restricted to the bench. She has played a critical role in setting up scientific policy via her sitting on various committees of the NIH and of professional organizations." Glimcher also was recently selected as the winner of the 2001 American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) Award. She will receive the award, consisting of a $20,000 cash prize and certificate, on April 28 during the ASCI/Association of American Physicians Joint Meeting in Chicago, Illinois. She will deliver a lecture at the presentation that will be later published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation. Richard
Levins Levins delivered a lecture, "The Pathway for Cuban Science: International, Modern, and Independent," to the Cuban Academy of Sciences. He also was given the title of Research Collaborator of the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Enviro nment.
