Based on the principle that you’re never too young to start learning about public health, HSPH hosted more than 100 fifth-grade students on Youth Health Fair Day, Wednesday, March 28. Sponsors were the Environmental Health Education Program and the Office of Government and Community Programs.

The first-ever event invited students from two Boston-area grammar schools to participate in workshops and meet with representatives from health and social agencies. Participating from HSPH were the Prevention Research Center; Department of Nutrition; Violence Prevention Program at the Division of Public Health Practice; and the Occupational Health Program in the Department of Environmental Health.

Also presenting were the Boston Museum of Science; Boston Police Department; Boston Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Center; Boston Fire Department; and Boston Sickle Cell Center.

"We felt the fair was a nice opportunity to raise awareness among young students about public health issues," said Marshall Katler, research specialist in the Department of Environmental Health, who assisted Dayna Antenucci from the Office of Governmen t and Community Programs in organizing the event.
