Birth Control Pill's Cancer Benefits and HRT Cancer Risks Topic of Cutter Lecture The 138th Cutter Lecture on Preventive Medicine, "Increasing the Cancer Benefits of the Pill and Reducing the Cancer Risks of Hormone Replacement Therapy: The Essential Role of Epidemiology," will take place on Thursday, April 24 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Snyder Auditorium. The speaker will be Malcolm Pike, Flora L. Thornthon Professor of Preventive Medicine, University of Southern California, Los Angeles. The event is sponsored by the Department of Epidemiology. Take Our Daughters to Work Day Intended to introduce girls to diverse career opportunities, "Take our Daughters to Work Day" will happen at HSPH on April 24. HSPH members may sign up to bring a girl seven years or older to the school by contacting Desiree Ruiz at 2-0979. Girls do not need to be the daughter of the HSPH member who sponsors their visit to the school. "Take our Sons to Work Day" will take place on May 29. Children, Families, and Post-September 11th Trauma Focus of Symposium A symposium about childrens mental health in the aftermath of war and terrorism and its relationship to how children and families cope in the face of violent trauma around the world will take place on April 28 from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Harvard Law School, Austin North, 1515 Massachusetts Avenue, in Cambridge. "Children, Families and Trauma: The World After 9-11" is sponsored by Harvard Childrens Initiative, Childrens Global Mental Health Working Group, Carr Center for Human Rights Policy, François Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) Center for Health and Human Rights, Harvard Program on Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research, University Committee on Human Rights Studies, and the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Jennifer Leaning, director, Program on Humanitarian Crises and Human Rights, FXB Center for Health and Human Rights, will moderate a discussion segment of the symposium. Event to Focus on Communicating Prevention Messages to the Media Deborah Prothrow-Stith, professor of public health practice, Department of Health Policy and Management, will speak at "Making Prevention Research News" on April 29 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Union Club, 8 Park St., Boston. The goals of the event are to increase prevention reseachers knowledge of how to disseminate information about their work to the media and to build relationships among the media and scientists. David Ozonoff of Boston University and Christina Economos of Tufts University will also speak, as will editors and reporters from Boston media. Jim Hartz, television and print journalist, will moderate. The event is free and part of "Prevention Research: The Hidden Necessity," an initiative of The Medical Foundation and Research!America, in collaboration with HSPH and other institutions.
