Featured Event "Deans Distinguished Lecture: The Future of Scientific Computing at Harvard" Monday, May 16 Speaker: Alyssa Goodman, professor of astronomy, Harvard University, and research associate, Smithsonian Institution Walk-a-Thon to Give Away Pedometers and Prizes To encourage exercise, the Center for Health Promotion is holding its First Annual Walk-a-Thon from May 3 to 13. HSPH members are invited to get free pedometers and cards on which they can track how many steps they take each day. On May 13, participants can submit their tracking cards to the Center, and the top three participants in each of the categories of students, faculty, and staff will receive a prize. Instructions and prize descriptions will be printed on the tracking cards. Students for Socially Responsible Endeavors (SSRE) is hosting its second annual Red Cross blood drive on Friday, May 13 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Kresge cafeteria. All Harvard faculty, staff, and students are invited. To make an appointment, visit an SSRE sign-up table in Kresge cafeteria and in the HMS Courtyard Cafe during lunch hours in the two weeks prior to the drive, or contact eheilig@hsph.harvard.edu. Each year, the François-Xavier Bagnoud Center for Health and Human Rights Essay Award recognizes the best student essay or other paper of outstanding scholarship and creativity linking health and human rights. Essays may be papers that have been prepared for courses or seminars, dissertations, op-ed pieces, articles, or any other original work. Preference is given to individual rather than collaborative work. Submissions are accepted from students at any level at HSPH. The recipient of the award receives a certificate and $200. Send submissions with a cover note by May 23 to: Health and Human Rights Essay Award The Human Resources Office is hosting its Annual Career Fair for individuals interested in employment at HSPH. In addition, there will be representatives from HMS and HDSM. The career fair gives applicants an opportunity to speak with hiring managers about employment opportunities. Administrators, hiring supervisors, and members of the faculty and staff will be available to speak to attendees about specific career opportunities in their departments. The fair takes place on Tuesday, May 3, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Kresge Atrium.
