Nearly 40 HSPH employees have been recognized by their peers for outstanding work as part of the ongoing Great Place to Work (GPTW) Recognition Award effort. First-time honorees will receive a letter of appreciation and a $100 gift certificate to GiftCertificates.com.
The GPTW Recognition Award program resulted from a School-wide survey in 2002 that indicated employees would welcome a way for extra effort to be acknowledged. Staff, faculty, and academic appointees are eligible.
The program is open to nominations at any time and continues to collect them.

I-Min Lee |
 |
I-Min Lee, an associate professor in the Department of Epidemiology, has been at HSPH since the late 1980s. She began as a student here and now works on the College Alumni Health Study, which examines predictors of chronic diseases.
The colleague who nominated Lee wrote: "Thank you for creating an extraordinary work environment, making staff feel highly valued and motivated, and for going to great lengths to continue the work begun by Dr. Ralph S. Paffenbarger, Jr. on the school's longest continuous research project involving human subjects-the College Alumni Health Study."
Said Lee, who also has an appointment at Brigham and Women's Hospital, "I have been more touched by receiving this award than by academic accolades."

Julie Gound |
 |
Beginning any new job can be challenging, especially when it involves getting a department up and running. Julie Gound, director of administration for the Department of Genetics and Complex Diseases, hit the ground running after GCD was announced in 2003, helping organize faculty searches, lab set-ups, and support for staff, students, and faculty.
Wrote the person who nominated Gound: "Consistently goes out of her way to help with almost any task. Always easy to reach and pleasant to talk to. Follows up quickly with any inquiry. Makes new employees feel welcome and helps immensely with adjusting to the new workplace. Participates actively in departmental activities and maintains close contact with each and every member of the department. A great person, colleague, and is a true asset to the school."
