Looking for a job after graduation?
"This is the 'education' generation, and the competition for jobs is great," said Peter Crudele, director of the HSPH Office of Career Services, located in Kresge G-29. "There are a lot more people, all over the country, graduating from schools of public health every year. Our students are highly prized, but a degree from Harvard alone doesn't necessarily open every door for you."
To help current students and job-hunting alumni find their way to the next step on their career paths, Career Services maintains a comprehensive resource library containing job listings for both domestic and international opportunities, background literature on companies, information on fellowship and internship opportunities, and more.

This year's event will be held on March 6, 7, 8, and 9. All Career Services programs are open to current students, post-docs, and alumni. See below for more details.
To compete in the current job market, skills in good communication, writing, and interviewing are a must, said Crudele. Students can hone those skills at career workshops or at one-on-one meetings with Crudele or part-time recruiting coordinator Betsy Weissel. They are supported by staff assistant Maria Ramos.
"Interviewing Workshop" with Career Services, Tuesday, February 21, Kresge 213, 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
"All of our graduates who actively seek jobs find them," Crudele said. "Some take six weeks and some six months, depending on how proactive they are."
Working as a team, Crudele and Weissel offer a bounty of assistance to those embarking on their first, or latest, job hunt.
"We're constantly updating our employer contacts, using the latest technology, and picking up ideas that job hunters can use from recruiters with whom we are constantly speaking," said Weissel.
Experienced graduates, especially those in a clinical setting or with medical degrees, may be in for a culture shock when they interview for work in corporate settings, she said. Career Services can help them make the transition, negotiate an appropriate salary, and prepare them for life after HSPH.
International students often ask the Career Services team for advice in navigating visa regulations pertaining to work in the U.S. Others simply need a second set of eyes to examine a resume/CV or cover letter.
But, perhaps the most useful and used Career Services resource is the office's eRecruiting system, a web-based matchmaking tool that makes it easy for job hunters and employers to find each other. Currently, more than 2,000 companies subscribe to the service in order to list their job vacancies and review the electronic resumes/CV posted by HSPH students and alumni.
