Watch HSPH on Silver Screen

The HSPH community is invited to a special screening of two professionally produced videos that highlight life at the School. Both videos will be shown at three separate screenings on Thursday, February 23, at 11:30 a.m., 12:15 p.m., and 1 p.m. in Kresge G-3. Each session will last a total of about a half an hour. Introducing the videos will be Julie Rafferty, Director for Development Communications, Robin Herman, Assistant Dean for Communications, and John Barkan, producer and director.

A School in Action is packed with vibrant interviews of faculty members, staff, and students at the School and in the field. Individual "chapters" feature the subjects of Infectious Disease and Health; Violence and Health; Environment and Health; Diet, Obesity, and Health; Ideals of a World Community; and Solutions to Global Health.

HSPH members who are interviewed include Michelle Mello, Max Essex, Dyann Wirth, Tonya Villafana, Jennifer Leaning, Jhumka Gupta, Deborah Prothrow-Stith, Howard Hu, Jack Spengler, Steven Gortmaker, Walter Willett, Gökhan Hotamisligil, Kathryn Wellen Freidinger, Freeman Changamire, Ananya Roy, Marcelo Targino, Debbie Mattina, David Shelton, David Bloom, and Deans Bloom and Ware.

What Are You Going to Do About It? focuses on the poignant stories of several HSPH students. Physician Lulu Oguda describes wanting to address HIV/AIDS in Nairobi. Marcelo Targino talks of juggling his MPH studies with his duties as a part-time physician. Epidemiology student Xuefen Su hopes to take her knowledge back to China. Research fellow Michael Bank is examining sediment cores from Boston Harbor.

Their stories demonstrate the breadth of public health and help answer the video's question of what to do about public health challenges around the world.
