Red Cross professionals care for a blood donor.
Students for Socially Responsible Endeavors (SSRE) at HSPH organized a blood drive with the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay on December 9. Nearly 30 pints of blood were collected, enough to help 84 people, according to Elizabeth Heilig, president of the group and PhD student. Diego Villa, an SSRE member and MPH student, spearheaded the effort.

"We organized the drive because we wanted to help alleviate the shortage of blood in Massachusetts, and we thought HSPH community members would enjoy helping out," said Heilig. "We had a great turnout."

SSRE also organized a clothing and food drive in December. HSPH members and Shattuck House residents donated enough items to fill more than two station wagons. Clothes were given to Rosie’s Place and the Pine St. Inn, and food was given to an emergency food pantry located at the Parker Hill-Fenway Neighborhood Service Center.
