David Hunter
Hunter Receives Named Professorship

David Hunter has been appointed a Vincent L. Gregory Professor of Cancer Prevention in the Departments of Epidemiology and Nutrition. Hunter heads the recently established Program in Molecular and Genetic Epidemiology at HSPH.

Hunter has worked toward improving understanding of the causes of cancer, particularly breast, colon, and skin cancer. He is an investigator on the Nurses’ Health Study and is project director for the Nurses’ Health Study II. He is former director of the Harvard Center for Cancer Prevention and co-chair of the NCI Breast and Prostate Cancer Cohort Consortium. He is also director of the DF/HCC Polymorphism Detection Core that provides genotyping facilities for investigators at HSPH and elsewhere in the Longwood Medical and Academic Area.

With the assumption of this named professorship, Hunter joins Dimitrios Trichopoulos, who is also a Vincent L. Gregory Professor of Cancer Prevention.

"Outings & Innings" Visits to LMA Suspended for Summer

"Outings & Innings," an employee service that offers savings on movies, sporting events, and other tickets, has suspended visits to the LMA until further notice due to limited staffing. Visits are expected to resume in September. Orders can still be placed at http://harvie.harvard.edu/perks. For the quickest delivery, choose the U.S. mail option. Tickets may also be picked up at the Cambridge office, 9 Holyoke St. Summer hours are 8:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Tuesday to Thursday, and 8:30 a.m.-2:15 p.m. on Friday. The office will be closed August 30 to September 3.

Annual Scoopfest Celebration

Summer was in the air on July 16 as staff and faculty celebrated HSPH Scoopfest 2004 in the Kresge cafeteria and courtyard. Deans of the School dished out a variety of ice cream, while a deejay encouraged some impromptu dancing. Seashells, beach balls, sand buckets, and shovels served as summertime decorations.
